As promised, here is a tutorial for my Stampin Up Presentation…the projects are easy and fun to make! Again, thanks to fellow demonstrator, Jan Tink (Janine Tinklenberg) for her inspiration (okay, she came up with the ruffle edge part…and best yet she allowed me to use it for my presentation in front of 500+ people!! Check out this post… http://drekow.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/04/back-with-a-bang.html
I made a box you can see how here:
I then covered the box with printed paper and now I am going to decorate the box with a scallop ruffle edge.
Here is what you need:
Scallop border punch
1×12" piece of printed paper
Sticky Strip
Wide Oval Punch
Paper Crimper
Scallop one edge of the printed paper (I used the "A Walk in the Park" printed paper from the Occasions Mini catalog.
Then run that piece through the paper crimper.
The crimper allows for "pleating" of the piece which will help you get it around the oval in a minute…
Now, place sticky strip on the back side of the wide oval–this will be bumpy and not pretty, but all that matters is that you get the sticky strip on the very edge of the oval.
See…not pretty but well covered! 🙂
Next, pull off the backing….
Now, come back to the printed paper piece. Start pleating….then pull that oval out and start sticking!
I find the easiest way to do this is to start with the oval (sticky side down) and press the pleats to it. Remember, you need to keep "pleating" or gathering those crimped bumps to keep it nice and even all the way around!
When you get to the end, cut the excess tail off and turn it over.
Add a little sticky strip to the beginning edge, and stick the tail down. Trim any excess. Most of the time I am able to line scallops up, so it looks perfect!
Double stack dimensionals and then stick to the box…
And finally,,,,here is the finised box! ADORABLE (If I can say so!!)
Hope you enjoyed it!!
I love this!! And it IS adorable, so you CAN say so! 🙂 I may have to give in and get that crimper after all …
Hi Dena! LOVE THIS IDEA!!! Thanks for sharing, and with such great detail!!! Hope you & your family are doing well! See you in SLC in August! Keep the inspiration and great ideas coming!!!
Scot
What a fun technique! I can’t wait to try it out. Thanks for taking the time to write this up and for sharing it!
This is a fun edging technique. I do not have the scallop punch but do have scallop scissors & edge die & a crimper. I have a question for you. Do you have a formula for determining how long the ruffled strip needs to be to go around the center piece? I was thinking maybe 3 times the circumference of the center piece.
I do not have a formula for that–If I run out, I just overlap with the next piece. Hope that helps!
