Friday Quickie Techniques and Tips: Making your own Stamp Positioner!

Video tutorial on my blog www.thecreativitycave.com for how to make this adorable cupcake card using Stampin Up's Sweet Cupcake Stamp Set and framelits. #handmade #thecreativitycave #stampinup

Happy Friday everyone!  Today's Friday Quickie is kind of epic (at least it is in my mine!) Due to my sheer genius, I created my own stamp positioning tool!!!  There are a couple on the market and they go from $45-60 and I figured I could make something pretty similar for WAY less (I have $10 invested, roughly).  And since my wish list from the new catalog is still a mile long, I figured I better find a cheaper way to do this!  I enlisted the help of my husband, a few sheets of Fun Foam (that I had left over from this Friday Quickie), an empty stamp case, a couple of strong magnets, and finally a sheet of steel (found at your local home-improvement-type store).

This is kind of a summary of what I did, but I think it is pretty good!

In the video I stamped with photopolymer on the red sheet, but I should have added the blue sheet for best results,  It worked this time, but that extra layer is helpful.

The layers in the case (which are cut to 5 x 7 3/8") from the bottom up: 2 layers of foam, the steel sheet, another layer of foam.  This works great for Clear Mount Stamps (Red Rubber with the foam), and if you are using Photopolymer stamps, add an extra layer of foam (the blue layer).  The Magnets will hold through both layers of foam!

Now back to the ridiculously cute card! 🙂 I used Pink Pirouette, Flirty Flamingo, and Watermelon Wonder for the icing, and Soft Sky, Pool Party, and Bermuda Bay for the cake bottom.  SUPER cute and lining everything up was a breeze with my make-shift positioner!

  1. I like the Wink of Stella better than the sequins in this case. I was surprised you got your stamp positioner(great idea!)to work so well without the blue layer for the photopolymer stamps.I guess it wasn’t a big deal while the foam is still new. After regular use it will probably compress somewhat & you will need that extra layer.Go with what works!

  2. What a great idea I was going to purchase a misti but now I will make one of these I will try some magnetic sheet as I have that on hand. Let you know if that works too.
