TGIF Challenges #24

TGIF October Challenges-003

So I've been having fun making cards from different challenges around town–and I liked this one a lot!

Festive Flower Builder Punch Sunflower-001

When I first saw it I immediatly thought Festive Flower Builder Punch–but the weather is WAY too nice to be making Christmas Cards, so I decided to try a Sunflower.  I've been meaning to make one and this sketch was PERFECT for this.  Now If you saw my card from yesterday, you know that I have a dance party all queued up!!  Get ready cause this one is adorable!!!!  There may be dancing in the video below….

The best part of this punch is that it is an AWESOME way to use up pieces of scrap paper you are hoarding!  Don't lie–you are busted!!  But I'm here to rescue you!!  Punches are FABULOUS for scraps and this punch is no different–in fact–'builder punches' are fabulous because they typically punch several pieces and are a great way to use up those smaller scraps you just know you'll need some day!

To make the sunflower, I just started with a 1 3/4" circle that I covered in fast fuse.  I then lied up the first row of sunflower petals and stuck them down on that fast fuse!  Its easy and that fast fuse sticks like a champ!  Then I added the second row of petals in-between the first row (put down more fast fuse–don't worry if its ugly–you'll cover it up with the brown circle!  I used 16 of the largest petals from the punch in Hello Honey, curling each petal with my finger a bit to make it curved.

The center of the sunflower is nothing more than a 1 3/4" circle punch stamped with Early Expresso with the dots from the set, Homemade for You!  I sponged the edges, too.  The stem is literally a 1/2" wide strip of Mossy Meadow that was sitting on my desk from another project.  I cut the top 1" along a slight curve to look like the strong, thick stems that a big sunflower would have!

I added the banner (remember the sketch) that I had punched the ends with the Triple Banner Punch with the Birthday greeting from Cottage Greetings,  As I was sticking it down on my card I smeared the ends…GRRRR!!  I had just reinked my pad and didn't think about how it was still a bit wet…oops!  I hope you didn't notice until I pointed it out, but it was already glued and sometimes you can just leave boo-boos as creative licence allows….that's my story and I'm sticking to it!  Literally! 🙂

So after I made this card, I decided it was PERFECT for a treat holder that I had sitting on my desk since summer–in fact I shot the video in August–but had not posted it yet.   My dear friend, BJ gave this to me when we were in Hawaii this spring. Well, here you go!!  The intro is Classic–especially if you saw yesterday's project! 🙂  Enjoy!

Here I used a 2" x 8 1/2" piece of Crumb Cake. Score at 4 1/8" and 4 3/8"  I stamped with those same dots in white and punched the tag ends (I used the Ornate Tag Topper punch, which I think gives it a "fancy" look–in the video I used the Scallop Tag Topper Punch), then rubbed the edges with white ink.

The Early Espresso band is 6 x 2"

The construction of the sunflower is exactly the same (but I used the small "2-petal" piece from the Festive flower builder punch.  Instead of the base center–I just kept adding the petals perpendicular from one another until I had used all 8 double petals)  The center is a 7/8" scallop circle in Expresso that I sponged.
