Oh my gosh, I cannot believe I am making a Christmas Card in July!!!! What has this world come to?  I hope you understand how wrong this feels–today was 90 degrees and about 90% humidity so it was hot and wet!  You know when they talk about a "dry heat" in places like Vegas…they are referring to the fact that if you were in Iowa on a 90/90 day you would not want to be outside because it feels like a steam bath! It may sound fun, but really it is no good–especially for stamping Christmas Cards! 😉 Ok, my weather-related-Christmas-in-July-stamping is wrong-RANT is over! 🙂

Despite my rant, I really like my card and the pictures do NOT do it justice!  This card sparkles!  Just watch the video an you'll see!!  It is so pretty!

Gather your supplies:

  • 1/2 sheet of Sahara Sand, plus a 3 7/8 x 5 1/8" piece of Sahara Sand
  • 4 x 5 1/4" cherry Cobbler cardstock
  • Sahara Sand Pad
  • White ink and embossing powder
  • embossing buddy
  • Thankful Branches Stamp set (and framelits)
  • Linen Thread
  • Sponge
  • Wink of Stella

I started from the bottom and worked my way up, stamping! I embossed the ground first, then stamped the tree, using the embossing buddy between each step.

I sponged the "halo" on the tree, and filled in the ground, adding Wink of Stella on top, and making the star on the tree "twinkle"

Add the Christmas Cardinal and some linen thread and layer it up!  Easy!

  1. Dena, I love your card! Think of it this way, the snow will help us break up this heat and humidity we have in Iowa with cool thoughts. This card is so fun. I would never of thought to pair the Cherry Cobbler with the Sahara Sand. I am going to have to make this card if I don’t get that new set well I bet I have a tree that would work. It is just so fun and love the touches of Wink of Stella to make it shine.
I am making some Christmas in July cards now just for fun!
Did you mention why you put the heat on the back side? Just curious – does it help with warping? It is sure fun to see it turn!

  2. Beautiful card, Dena. I wonder how it would look using Smoky Slate and Cherry Cobbler? I actually thought that’s what you were using. And since I make between 90-100 Christmas cards each year (6 different cards, 15 cards in each style), I HAVE to start making them in July! Been gathering ideas for my cards already. Dare I say that it “cools” me off to make a Christmas card in 90+ degree weather? Keep up the great work. Love your blog.

  3. I here you about the weather, Dena! I live in Indiana and we have those hot steam bath days all the time. I love this card, although I agree, it is hard to get motivated about Christmas in all this sweat!
Love your blog, You are a delight to watch and follow!!!

  4. This is a great card, and one that would work for that mass production Christmas card frenzy. Always fun watching your videos!
Sorry about your heat… gosh I remember the humidity when I spent summers in Minnesota. It’s brutal doncha know?

  5. Hi Dana, love this card! I make Christmas cards all year long so as not to be stressed about it in December. I was wondering, why did you use the white ink instead of Versamark? Is the white brighter that way?
PS it’s hotter than blazes in Ohio now, too 😅

  6. Hi Pat! Thanks so much–I love how it turned out, too! The reason I used white is because I like that you can see it on the cardstock better when you stamp it vs Versamark. They both work the same as far as embossing is concerned and I knew I was going to sponge so it is just one less pad to pull out. Just personal preference! stay cool, my friend!

  7. Hi Chris–Thanks so much!! I used the back side to prevent the powder from blowing off and sticking away from image. PLus I also had a comment from a lady whos husband is a Chemical Engineer and he said that is the right way to do it–something about films and polymers…I dont know! But of course, it was nice to know that I had the thumbs up from a Chemical Engineer! 🙂

  8. Hahaha! Whatever works to cool you down, right? I think I picked Sahara Sand over Smoky Slate because it is less gray and dreary. I think you could use it, but I like the peppier warm tone in Sahara! Thanks so much, Sherry!!
