GDP Color Challenge

Global Design Project 017

You may have noticed that I have taken up challenges the last few months.  It started with my friends at the Global Design Challenge–I know just about all the designers personally–and I love their challenges.  They are really great at getting me out of my usual style/color/layout ways.  I find it is a great way to get the juices rolling, too!  This week's challenge is no different! These are absolutely colors I would not normally use together and I really like how my design came out!

I think if you've watched my videos for any length of time, you know that I keep things pretty real can we discuss two things:

  1.  I have to toot my own horn…the sweater that I am wearing, I made!!!!! (!) I am pretty proud of awesome self!  I am a knitter–it is my hobby (remember this stamping thing is my job)… 😉
  2. I apparently have a huge glob of mascara on my eyelid….don't know what to say except that I am very real  and don't judge a girl!  There is a reason I have glasses on! 🙂  I promise I will not quit my day job but when my boss sees this, I know she will laugh her butt off!

While these are soooo not my usual colors, I really like the look they produced!  My favorite part is how the water really added to making the colors look great together!

Gather your supplies to make the card (or shop for them below by clicking on the products):

  • Summer Silhouettes, Perfect Pairings
  • 1/2 sheet of Crumb Cake cs
  • 4 3/4 x 3 1/2" and 3/4 x 2 3/4" watercolor paper
  • 4 7/8 x 3 5/8" rose red
  • triple banner punch to make the "hooray" flag
  • Tip top taupe dotted lace ribbon
  • Love Blossoms Embellishment Kit
  • Wink of Stella Clear (oh, I so love this)
  • Fast fuse and dimensionals

The images soften so nicely and just look pretty–all with a little water! (and of course the watercolor paper is more important!) The effect here is a great one–it is based on the Friday Quickie Technique I did yesterday (check it out here).  I also sponged the edges (in Garden Green were the greenery is, Rose Red LIGHTLY around the rest).  You can see it adds some depth to the card, which is a fancy way of saying it looks good! My photo doesn't show it well, but you can totally see it in the video–I used Wink of Stella to add some shimmer to all the flowers–oh it is so pretty!!!  You just have to add this to your supply collection.  I find I can't stop using it!

I did, however, have to find a way to figure out how to get Crumb Cake into the mix and while it was the base of my card, I needed to tie it together with the greeting.  I didn't want to just stamp it on the card, because that would have been flat and boring…I know this because the strip may or may not cover the first stamping of the Hooray! 😉  So I used the scrap left from cutting down my cardstock and just stamped on it and then was able to add that gorgeous lace ribbon and the paperclip to embellish.  It is from our new Love Blossoms Embellishment Kit that is super awesome because it is filled with beautiful little treasures for your cards!

I hope you like my card!  I also hope you'll stop by my blog next week–I have a big announcement to share that kicks off a NEW Customer Rewards program!  However, if you are just desperate to shop, no worries, all orders from Jan 1st will be included in the new program.  I am so appreciative of my customers and I am so excited about this program!  You won't want to miss out!  To get all the details, please subscribe to my mailing list. 1. Love this Dena! So glad you have started doing challenges and that the Global Design Project had something to do with that. 🙂 your technique for your card is really interesting, I’ve done it for the background but never the main image. Really great. Thank you so much for playing along with this week’s Global Design Project challenge!
