Now, onto how these beauties were made:

As you could see in the video, I used a stencil with watercolor paper and my aquapainters with ink pads to apply the color.  Such a cool idea for stencils–I always just used sponge daubers in the past, and while that works great, this is just another way to use those stencils!  Don't worry–there are samples using the sponging, too!  I did discover that a rubber brayer doesn't do much for me so don't bother pulling that out (unless you have the sponge attachment–we carried them years ago).

Whenever I use watercoloring, I make sure to tape down my paper and stencil.  It helps keep the stencil from moving (obviously), but also helps hold it down so water won't seep through as easily.  Don't stamp anything on top until it is TOTALLY dry…ask me how I know! 🙂

Colors are Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Bermuda Bay and Rich Razzleberry (from Bottom Left to Top Right, Respectively).  The Sentiment is from Big News and I stamped it in Versamark (using the Embossing Buddy) and then heat set it with Black Embossing Powder.  Plus the saying has AWESOMENESS in it–hello?!  That rocks!

Now on this card, I sponged the colors on with sponge daubers (onto watercolor paper) using the Happy Patterns Stencils (or as the catalog refers to them: Decorative Masks).  Please, they are stencils! 🙂

After a little trial and a lot of error I discovered that on the smaller sized openings, the water just ran and blobbed everywhere (official term, I'm sticking to it) so rather than start with the aquapainter, I sponged the color.  Then I removed the stencil and spritzed it with water and my spritzer.  This gave the watercolor look, but without the blobs of color everywhere.

I finished it off by punching 3 pansy punches with the Typeset DSP and a black 7/8 scallop circle punch.  A length of silver sequin trim in the background and the greeting is from Sunburst Sayings.

Speaking of Sunburst sayings, I used the Sunburst Die to create my own stencil.  I ran it through my big shot with a window sheet!  Sweet!  Aquapainter and watercolor paper made for a quick and easy background for this simple card.  Finished it off with a bit of gold thread and some circle punches with the greeting from the Sunburst Sayings set.  Easy!

Since I had the yellow out, I used the Dots and Stripes Stencil to create a simple diagonal pattern.  Aquapainters on Watercolor paper.  The greeting is from February's Paper Pumpkin Kit and stamped on the Project life Cards and Labels Framelits.  I popped the frame up over a vellum Butterfly.  So pretty and simple (and easy)….and quick!

LOVE how happy this card is!  I can't wait to send this to someone to brighten their day!  It would be pretty if it was sponged with ink on cardstock, but for some reason I am such a sucker for anything watercolored and it just looks "fancy"! Don't you think?

I have been making a bunch of these cards lately…did you see this post? Well, I thought it would be cool to have skinnier stripes–plus a pretty metallic look.  So, I used the Dots and Stripes stencils to create this card using sponging and Versamark ink so I could emboss it with Pewter Embossing Powder.  I LOVE the look.  Kate Spade is always my inspiration for these Botanical Bloom cards.  I used some of the colors that I see in her stuff.  It is so pretty!  They are Calypso Coral, So Saffron, Daffodil Delight, Watermelon Wonder, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay and of course, Black.  Card is Very Vanilla. The pearls make it classy!

  2. Hi Dena! Wow, I just watched this video and was wowed with your enthusiasm! This looks so much fun. Then, I let the next video come up with the stained glass rose and was even more excited! Hey, this is Pella and not that much excitement right now – even the college kids started spring break. Anyway, I wished I was closer so we could stamp and play a lot. I have learned so much in just a short bit from you. I have been recommending your blog to some friends who are demos for ideas for classes. Boy, are they enthused too! Wish my local demo would take notice! Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to get busy and create some things. I still love the box-a-lope and may work with that idea first since I don’t have these framelits or stencils. I need to save up my pennies!
