Friday Quickie Techniques and Tips: Faux Resist

Friday Quickie Technique and Tips Video Series Faux Resist

So I am super excited about the technique I have for you today–I literally stumbled on it when i made my cute little reindeer holder (remember him?)  I had used a post-it to mask off something and then I had these white dots on the post it, which I more recently used in my office for something and when I stamped on top of the dots, they resisted, and showed through.  I, of course, thought I had saved it, but I can't find it–it is probably stuck to something {like my butt! :)}.  Anywho, yesterday I decided that this is what I was going to do for my technique this week and got going!  I am calling this Faux Resist (because it isn't true Emboss Resist–because as discussed in the video, I'm lazy)…it takes out the heat-embossing step.  Since that can be time consuming and somewhat messy (like powder all over your workspace), I like my version a bit better!

So this is an excellent study in "edge catching".  In the video I show how I cut the stamp up to eliminate catching the edge.  THis is my "before" card.  The after card is the one I made in the video (without the caught edge).  HOWEVER, after I shot the video I decided to put a little flower there with a rhinestone, and of course, it looked awesome.  So that is the card I took the main photos of!  It is cute!  As many of you already know, half (or more) of stamping is just knowing how to fix your mistakes!

  1. What do you do about the rest of the white chevron where the cake isn’ t stamped on? Does it just remain on the card or do you wipe it off somehow?

  2. I like the little flower you glued on to cover the smudge but I thought I would suggest using the white Signo Uniball pen to just cover it up.It works pretty well on small oopsies like that. If it’s a dark color I will dab layers from the pen.
