Creative Inking Blog Hop: Terrific Techniques

Creative Inking Blog Hop

I am so excited to have you stop by The Creative Inking Blog Hop!!  If you've just joined us from Lori's Blog, welcome!!  If you are starting here, please enjoy all the projects on our hop!  This month's theme is Terrific Techniques!  While this technique is certainly not new, I really love the way I did it and think it is pretty fun!  The Technique is Packing Tape Glitter!  Would you believe I've been stamping for about 18 years and this is the first time I've ever done it?!

Adorable Glitter Card using Stampin Up's Snow Place Stamps and Framelits

So here is my card.  It is based on one I saw on Pinterest recently but the snowman was embossed in the background (the white part).  I thought it would be pretty fun to add a bit of glimmer and it occurred to me that I should probably add some glitter and then I though, OH MY GOSH, this is the perfect opportunity to break out the packing tape!  NO WAY!

I have to tell you I am not a huge fan of glitter–once you use it you tend to find it in all kinds of interesting places—all over your face–up your nose….  Sometimes I find it on my kids, often I find it on my husband.  Occasionally I'll find it on my dog….the list goes on.  And so does the glitter–I'll probably be finding it in weird places for the next week…BUT, darn it, it is so stinking cute!  I love how it looks though, I had a hard time getting a really good pic of the card because the white snowflakes are hard to photograph on light cardstock, but they are there!  I think you can see them better in the video!

Glittery Snowman using Stampin Up's Snow Place stamp and Framelit Bundle

So to make the "window" of the snowman, I ran my Lots of Labels Framelit together with my snowman framelit and you get both cuts at once!  Such a great deal–I love when I can double or triple up on my diecut passes! 😉

I turned the framelit over and applied the packing tape.  Now let me offer a word of advice:  Do not do this step on your scratch paper or some other surface that packing tape with ruin.  I did mine right on my laminate counter-top desk.  I also have masonite (i think that 's what they are called) tables in my classroom, and you can do just about anything on them and pull it off! 😉  You just don't want to stick it down and then have it not come back off–clearly this is experience talking people!

Then I put my glitter on the packing tape.  I like to kind of press it in–it seems to catch more glitter that way.

Now at first when you hold it, it doesn't look too impressive.  But when you add a scrap of white cardstock behind it, the glimmer really comes out!  I then mounted that to my card with dimensionals.

A few holly berries using Dazzling Details for the Snowman's hat

Now I needed to dress up the snowman a bit–he was a little sad there all by himself. I added the top hat and some holly.  When I stamped the holly with red and olive markers, it was not that great (especially next to all that glitter) so I decided to add some Red Dazzling Details, and LOVED IT!  Another cautionary tale for you.  LET THE DETAILS DRY before you get all cocky with your awesome card.  I totally smeared mine–I'll add a pic after the kids get off to school–of the first one! 😉

Once I made these, I had to see what else I could glitter-ify!!  Here are a few:
