Black and White Backgrounds of Awesomeness!

How to make an awesome black and white background with a pop of color video tutorial on my blog with lots of different projects using Stampin Up Supplies!

So this post is really just a result of getting my groove going on last week's Friday Quickie. Originally, the post was supposed to be about backgrounds, and after I got going stamping, it turned into a Timeless Textures specific theme.  If you missed it, check it out here!  The funny thing is it all started out with this pin:

The Pin that inspired my How to make an awesome black and white background with a pop of color video tutorial on my blog with lots of different projects using Stampin Up Supplies!

It is from my Stampin Up Inspiration Board.  Most of what is there are AWESOME colors, beautiful pictures or designs that look like they could translate to cards.  I like it a lot because they are really great to start with if you are stuck with no ideas rolling around in your head!

So I loved the idea of the geometric background in black and white with a pop of color to go with it!  So this is my first card!  I LOVE this card!!!  It turned out great and I really just love that it all came from a rug pin!  Check out the video to see how easy it is to stamp!  Remember my friends, butts out! 😉

Isn't this just the most fun card?!  I really like the little flowers in Soft Sky and the leaves to just really add a punch of color!

In the video, I got a wild hair and decided to go Baja with my stamping by adding one of the other images in the Bohemian Borders set, the diamond.  I think it is a fun touch!  While I wouldn't want to make dozens of these cards, it is kind of fun to see the difference!

Then I knew I wanted to try this background/border image from the set, Summer Silhouettes.  This is one of my all time fav sets from the main catalog because it is easy to stamp and it is a fantastic 2-step set!  The colors here are Black and white (obviously) with Bermuda Bay!  I pulled in the Beautiful Bunch set that coordinates with the fun flower punch I've been using and I love the look!

It is so hard to photograph the look of Wink of Stella, but i have it on the black center (1/2" circle punch) as well as the petals of the flower! Super simple card but really striking with that neat background design! I don't think I am done with this design yet–I can see too many more possibilities!!

Here is another fun card using the Stamp A Bag stamp set (while I have stamped a bag with this set, it is absolutely one of my favorites for card-making)!!  There are several options for backgrounds and I LOVE this one!!!  Black and white polkadots are AWESOME!!!  How could you not like the look of these?!

Interesting to note:  This background is stamped with the Black Archival pad and the next card is stamped with the Black Memento.  You can really see the difference-the memento almost looks gray to me.  Worth using the Black Archival ink for that true black look.

  1. Love these ideas, Dena! Here’s a little tip — pick up one of the Tombow Mono Sand Erasers 512A for ink on Amazon. They are great for getting ink smudges off your projects.

  3. Great cards, Dena. You have inspired me! I have some stamp sets with “background fillers” that I have never really known what to do with. Now I do! Thanks for some more great work.

  4. I like these cards! What is that you are using for the center of the flowers? Is it a punch or a die? If it was in your product list I didn’t see it.
